Shirley lives in Battle Creek’s Urbandale neighborhood. Shirley knew she needed some work done on her home, which was beyond her reach financially. She completed an application for assistance with Community Action, and met with a staff person who completed an assessment of her home’s needs. Along with windows, siding, and electrical updates, Shirley obtained a new roof, front steps, outside electrical outlets, kitchen, bathroom, flooring, and closet doors. Shirley is pleased that she had input into color and style selection for the home refurbishing. An avid gardener and cook, Shirley is also very happy with the extra storage that was built into the renovation job. “I never could have imagined that I would ever have a home as beautiful, functional, and safe as mine is,” Shirley said in a thank you letter. “There are not enough words to express how grateful I am.”
